Statement of Faith

The Bible
We believe that the Bible is the eternal, inerrant, and infallible Word of God, and the final authority for all that governs our faith and walk before Him. Consisting of sixty-six books, from Genesis to Revelation, as listed in the Old and New Testaments. That it was written by men under the inspired of God to reveal His plan for mankind. (Gen.1: 1; Ps. 19:7-11; 119:89, 105, 130, 160; Prov. 30:5-6; Isa. 8:20; Lu. 16:31; 24:25-27, 44-45; Jo. 5:39, 45-47; 12:48; 17:17; Acts 1:16; 28:25; Rom. 3:4; 15:4; Eph. 6:17; 11Tim. 3:16-17; 1Pet. 1:23; 11Pet. 1:19-21; Rev. 22:19.)

The Godhead
We believe that there is only one true living God, who existing in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - each co-equal in power, glory, holiness, perfection. Who is the maker and sustainer of life, and the Father of all that is created in heaven and on earth. That God is all knowing, all-powerful, and all present. That He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Gen.. 17:1; Ex. 15:11; Duet. 6:4; Ps. 83:18; 90:2; Jer. 10:10; Mt.28:19; Mk.12:30; Jn. 4:10-12; 24; 10:30; 15:26; 17:5; Acts 5:3-4; Rom.11:33; 1Cor. 2:10-11; 8:6; 12:4-6; 2Cor. 13:14; Eph. 2:18; 4:6; Phil. 2:5-11; 1Tim. 1:17; 1Jn. 5:7; Rev. 4:11)

Jesus Christ the Son
We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man. That He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. We believe He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust, as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, that all who put their faith in Him are justified by faith on the ground of His shed blood, and not by our works of righteousness, and that our works are the result of our new life in Christ. We believe He arose from the dead according to the scriptures, and now sits at the right hand of the throne of God as our great High Priest. We believe He is coming again to receive His Bride the Church and to establish His Kingdom on earth. (Is. 7:14; 9:6; Lu. 1:35; Jn. 1:1-2, 14; 2Cor. 5:19-21; Gal. 4:4-5; Phil. 2:5-8; Acts 2:18-36; Rom. 3:24-25; Eph. 1:7; 1Pet. 1:3-5; 2:24; Matt. 28:6-7; Acts 1:9-11; Rom. 8:34; 1Jn. 2:1-2)

The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person, sent to indwell, guide, teach, and empower every believer, and to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. That He is the Divine agent in the new birth, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ which takes place at the point of conversion, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of salvation. (Matt. 3:11; 28:19; Lu. 1:35; 3:16; 24:29; Jn. 1:33; 3:5-6; 14:16-17, 26; 15:26-27; 16:8-11, 13; Acts 5:30-32; 11:16; Rom8:9, 14, 16, 26-27; 1Cor. 12:12-14; 2Cor. 3:6; Eph. 1:13-14; 2Thes. 2:7, 13; Heb. 9:14; 1Pet. 1:2)

Man’s Lost Condition
We believe that because of man’s sin he is eternally lost. That man was created in God’s image and likeness, but because Adam willingly sinned against God, he fell from his sinless state, becoming forever separated from Him. Resulting in all mankind being in a condemned state and unable to redeem themselves. (Gen. 3:1-6; Rom.18, 20, 28, 32; 3:10, 19; 5:12, 19; Gal. 3:22; Eph. 2: 1, 3.

Salvation
We believe that salvation is by grace through faith alone. That it is a free gift from God and cannot be earned. That each person is called to repent of their sin and to put their faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, and shed blood for their redemption from sin. That through Christ’s atoning blood we are justified and declared righteous before God, and at that moment adopted into the family of God, and declared a child of God. ( Jn. 1:12; 3:3, 8; 6:23; 2 Cor. 5:17; Eph. 1:7; 2:1, 8-10; Col. 2:13; 1 Pet. 1:18-19; Tit. 3:5 )

Sanctification
We believe in sanctification; that every believer is set apart by God for the purpose of holiness; that the grace of God instructs us to deny ungodliness, and worldly desire, and to live sensibly, righteously, and godly in this present age. That we are to remove from our lives those things that the Bible says are not pleasing to God. We believe that at the point of salvation we are sanctified positionally - complete in Christ, but experientially are being renewed into His image day by day as we submit to His Lordship. (Jn. 17:17; 1 Cor. 6:19-20; 2 Cor. 3:18; Col. 1:10; 1 Thes. 4:3)

Eternal Salvation
We believe in the eternal salvation of the believer. That he who is in Christ is a new creature. That we are positionally seated with Christ in the heavenly places. That God has given us the Holy Sprit as a seal of our inheritance in Christ. (Jn. 1:12; 2 Cor. 5:17; Eph. 1:13)

Satan
We believe that Satan is a created but fallen angel, the cause of the fall of man, the author of sin, and the enemy of God. That because of man’s rebellion and pride mankind is now held captive by Satan to do his will. That he is the father of lies, and that the whole world lies in his power. But in Christ we are set free from Satan’s power. That Christ has given us the authority over the Demonic world in His name. That we are to submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from us. (Gen. 3; 2 Cor. 4:4; 10:3-5; Eph. 1:20-21; Col. 1:13; 1Jn. 5:18-19; Rev. 12:9, 11)

The Church
We believe that the Church is made up of all those who are true born again believers in Christ Jesus. That it is the universal body of Christ, and His chosen bride in this world. That it is the pillar and support of the truth, For the fellowship of those who have covenanted together for personal spiritual edification in their walk of faith and obedience, and equipping them for service in the Kingdom of Heaven, and fulfilling the great commission. We believe that the church is to be governed by a plurality of elders, with differing jurisdictional positions. And that there are only two Biblical offices of the church - Elder / Overseer and Deacon / Server. (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 2:41-47; Eph. 1:22-23; 4:11; 5:23; 1 Tim. 1:15)

Fun, Food, and Fellowship at the Bowen's Farm...

Family Game Night is a night set aside each month for the families of Grace Bible Church to join together and have a time of fun and fellowship. Christian fellowship is one of the four principles stated in the Grace Bible Church Mission Statement and the Family Game Night provides lots of great fellowship.

Grace Bible Church is a family integrated church, meaning the members at Grace Bible Church believe that families can learn and have fun together and not have to be separated by age groups. At Grace Bible Church's Family Game Night young and old enjoy one an other's company. Each month Family Game Night is held at a different Families home.

May's Family Game Night was held at the Bowen's Tender Grass Farm. The Bowen family runs a farm that sells grass fed beef, raw milk herd shares as well as chicken and pork.

As each family trickled in after a day of work and school, time of fellowshipping and talking with friends had begun.

Each family brought pizza, some homemade and some store bought, and well as a dessert.

There were games geared for the young children...

as well as games for all ages.
We were blessed to have beautiful weather at the May Family Game Night. Everyone had a great time and we are looking forward to the next Family Game Night which will be announced soon.

Mission Statement

A Christ Centered Church Dedicated to…

The building up of the body of Christ,

Helping to establish strong Christian families,

And proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Ps.78:5-7 “For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers, That they should teach them to their children, That the generation to come might know, [even] the children [yet] to be born, [That] they may arise and tell [them] to their children, That they should put their confidence in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments,”

Dear Friend,

We are grateful to God for His wisdom and direction in the design and formation of “Grace Bible Church” of Rocky Mount, Va., as many years and prayers have gone into it. We thank the Lord for the insights and the direction that He has given, especially as we seek to live for Jesus Christ, to obey His Word, and develop a family-centered fellowship in the culture in which we live.

As we have received Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and have desired to grow in our Christian faith, we have learned the importance of being involved in a good Bible believing Church made up of other believers who are committed to His Word for personal accountability.

Those of us who are married, and have been blessed with children, are even more aware of how important this fellowship is. For we live in a culture that has rejected God’s truth and is seeking to live independent of His much needed wisdom and principles. The clear warnings of Scripture are being ignored and we are experiencing more and more of God’s judgments in our society.

Day by day we are watching the American family crumble before our eyes. The very institution of marriage is under attack with a fifty percent divorce rate and even attempts to redefine what constitutes a marriage. Women are leaving the home and getting out from under the protection of their husbands and seeking their own career, all at the cost of their children. Abortion is at an all time high along with youth rebellion, unfaithful husbands, lack of character in the work place. We are being flooded as a society with a deluge of immoral TV programs, videos / dvd’s, and the ever luring temptations accompanied with the World Wide Web.

But the greatest question is, “Where is the Church in all this societal collapse?” Where are all the watchmen on the walls to warn the city? Through the years I have heard the concerns of many of God’s people. And the answer has been given by many church leaders, that if we are going to reach this wayward world for Christ, we are going to have to get down on their level, and adapt our worship and our ways to make it more appealing and “seeker friendly.” Now many of our own people are experiencing the same reproofs of life.

God once said of His own people; “They have sown to the wind and have reaped the whirlwind.”

The church now struggles with a high divorce rate; fragmented families, rebellious youth, and more and more Christian women have left the home in pursuit of a career, to find their own identity and purpose in life and/or because of the pressure to supplement the income. And the question becomes, “Who is raising the children?”

Many of God’s people are singing how Jesus sets them free, while secretly being defeated morally in their thought life or struggle with habits they can’t brake or are committing more and more time to their work in the pursuit of enlarging their financial borders, hoping all the while that God’s hand is upon them. Some have thrown up their hands and said, “I give up, it doesn’t work for me.” Others are told they just need to praise God more and it doesn’t mater how, “ just be sincere”. But Proverbs 14:12 tells us, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” The latest reproof to the misguided ways of the Church, is the breaking up of the family unit by its well-meaning programs. In many Churches a family doesn’t even worship together. Each one has the choice between traditional, contemporary, children’s church, or whatever worship suits them. We believe God intended families to worship together. God’s answer for the world and His Church is the same as it has been from the garden until now. Jesus prayed to the Father in John 17, “Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth.” We call it getting back to the basics of God’s Word and ways.

The Bible teaches us that God is the Creator of all things and everything has a design and a purpose. He has clearly laid out in His Word the principles for every issue that the world is struggling with. God has also given us His clear design for the Church, what its purpose is and how it is to be set up and governed.

It is God who set up the family structure with the husband being the head of the home as Christ is the head of the Church, with wives in submission to their husbands, and children obedient to their parents. Then the husband and wife are to work together in a spirit of oneness, to develop Christ like character in their sons and daughters. The Bible also teaches us how God has a specific design and purpose for our sons and daughters which will best prepare them for their role in life. Not one being superior to the other, just different. God promises us His peace and success when we follow His ways. For God has told us in His Word, “My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

The desire of this ministry is to reinforce God’s ways as they are taught in the Bible. It is also our desire to train up the people of God in three key areas:

1.To have a heart that seeks after God: We believe that God has given each one who professes to be a child of God the responsibility to study the Word of God and seek to apply it to their life.
I Peter 2:2, “Like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by if you may grow in respect to salvation.”
Col 3:16, “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms [and] hymns [and] spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
Ps 119:10, “With all my heart I have sought Thee; Do not let me wander from Thy commandments.”
It is our burden to help the people of God to walk in the light of His Word, and to experience the liberating power of the truth.
Jesus said in John 8:31-32, "If you abide in My Word, [then] you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

2.To build strong marriages: As we help to build marriage oneness between a husband and wife, we are not only building a strong and lasting marriage, but a secure foundation for training our children in God’s ways.
Eph 5:33, “Nevertheless let each individual among you also love his own wife even as himself; and [let] the wife [see to it] that she respect her husband.”

3.Turning the hearts of the fathers back to the sons:
Ps 127:3-5, “Behold, children are a gift of the LORD; the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; they shall not be ashamed, When they speak with their enemies in the gate.”
We believe that children are a special gift from God, and that God has given the primary responsibility to the parents to train up their children. The Church was designed to be a support to the father and mother. For many years, the Church, seeking to help the families, has taken over much of the training of the children through Sunday school and youth programs. Now many parents don’t know how to meet the spiritual needs of their sons and daughters and feel that their pastor, elders, or youth leaders are the only ones equipped to train them. They are led to believe, that youth relate better to their peers or a youth leader, rather than to the wisdom and protection of their own godly parents…those who love and know them best. God tells us in His Word that the father is the main teacher in the home with the help of the mother.
Deut 6:7, “And you shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.”
We believe that the home provides the best structure for this to take place.

This Church ministry seeks to reinforce these three areas with four key foundational principles found in Acts 2:42 “And they were continually devoting themselves to the Apostles teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” These principles made the early Church spiritually strong, fruitful, and able to stand for Christ in the midst of great persecution.

We are excited to see real family unity taking place in each of our church families. And we look forward to the fruit of God’s truths in our lives, in our children, and in the generations to come. What a joy! We thank the Lord for His wonderful blessings as we seek to live according to His ways.

Church Covenant

Our Church Covenant
Dear fellow believers at Grace Bible Church. Having put my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as my Lord and savior, having received His mercy and forgiveness for my sin, having entered into a covenant of grace through His blood, and having identified with Him through believers baptism, I do now, in the presence of God and this assemble enter into a covenant relationship with every fellow believer at Grace Bible Church.

A Covenant of Love
I now profess before this body of believers, that it is my desire to receive the right hand of fellowship, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, to enter into a covenant of love.

Five commitments in a covenant of Love

1. Being committed to giving and receiving a good report about others, and not given to gossip. If I have offended a brother, or my brother has offended me. I will follow the principles of reconciliation given to us in Matt. 18, and go to my brother. Being diligent to preserve the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. To walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which I have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing forbearance to one another in Love, and committed to praying for each other.

2. To submit to the word of God as the final authority for my faith, and seeking to apply its truths to every area of my life. To let the word of Christ richly dwell within me, not being conformed to this world but transformed by the renewing of my mind. Proving myself to be a doer of the word and not merely a hearer.

3. To honor and submit to the elders that God has raised up for the oversight, direction, protection, equipping, and service of this body of believers. To support the doctrines, ministries, spiritual disciplines, and admonitions, of this assembly, as we strive to keep ourselves pure in this present age in which we shine as lights.

4. To contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of this ministry, through our tithes and offerings, time and talents. Giving to the expense and needs of the church, the relief of those in need, and the spread of the gospel throughout all the nations. Realizing that I am a specially gifted part of this body, and will seek to carry out my role and ministry as God should so gift, burden, and direct me and my family. Being committed to pray for one another.

5. To help lay the foundation for many Godly generations through a strong dedicated Christian family. By regularly engaging in personal quiet times and family devotions. Purposing to develop and maintain a spiritual oneness with my spouse. Working together to biblically educate our children in the discipline and instruction of the lord. Recognizing that God has entrusted to the parents the primary responsibility for the spiritual growth of their children.
